Refuse Collection Vehicle (26 tonnes) Council Contract Role We are recruiting an experienced LGV Waste Collection Driver (Class 2 / Category C) to join a household waste collection service operating across the borough. This is a key operational role working as part of a multi-disciplinary council services team, ensuring daily waste collection routes are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with community priorities. Contracted Hours: Tuesday to Friday

37 hours per week

Daily hours: 09.25 per day

Temporary shift pattern: 6:00am 3:45pm until 24th April

Role Responsibilities Drive and operate a 26-tonne refuse collection vehicle

Lead and supervise waste collection crews on daily routes

Ensure completion of daily collection schedules

Manage operational records via paper systems or electronic handheld devices

Full responsibility for Health & Safety compliance on daily tasks

Ensure safe collection of bins and public safety along routes

Operate mechanical lifting and refuse equipment

Maintain cleanliness, security, and daily checks of vehicle and equipment

Deliver high standards of customer service when interacting with residents

Report issues, hazards, or service problems to supervisors/managers

Support training and safe working practices for crew members

Essential Requirements Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) Licence

CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)

Experience driving LGV vehicles in operational environments

Strong understanding of Health & Safety procedures

Ability to supervise and lead small operational teams

Good communication and customer service skills

Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Desirable xehkeey (or willingness to undertake) Manual Handling training

IOSH Working Safely

Needle Stick awareness training

Experience in waste management or local authority services
